Release date: 2022-05-30 Source of information: XJ Group Corporation

At 8:30 a.m.2021 local time on August 18, 2021, Matiari-Lahore ±660 kV DC transmission project successfully put into operation for 168 hours, with a full-load operation capacity of 4 million kilowatts. During the period, the Pakistani National Grid operates stably. The success of the test marks that the Matiari-Lahore ±660 kV DC transmission project is fully ready for commercial operation.

Importantance

The Pakistani Matiari-Lahore ±660kV DC transmission project, which is undertaken by XJ Group Corporation, is the priority implementation project in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project signed by President Xi Jinping during his visit to Pakistan in May 2015 and is also strategic important project along the “Belt and Road” countries. It is the first HVDC transmission line in Pakistan. The annual power transmission capacity of the project can reach up to 35 billion kWh. After completed and put into operation, it will be the transmission line with the highest voltage level, the longest transmission distance and the largest transmission capacity in Pakistan, which will effectively alleviate the power shortage in Pakistan's.

Milestone

As the core equipment provider of the Matiari-Lahore ±660kV DC project in Pakistan, XJ is responsible for the supply of complete sets of equipment such as converter valves, DC control and protection, DC measurement devices, AC protection, and DC power supplies. The AC/DC control and protection system and DC transmission converter valve equipment provided Converter Station, as the intelligent "brain" and strong "heart" of the DC transmission system, realizing cross-regional long-distance power transmission for the project and providing strong technical support.

It has been more than three years since the Matiari-Lahore ±660kV DC power transmission project in Pakistan started in early 2017. During this period, unexpected events such as the project delay in 2018, the conflict in India-Pakistan Kashmir in 2019, and the outbreak of the COVID-19 pneumonia epidemic in 2020. The engineers from XJ leaved for Pakistan from 2019, overcoming the unfavorable factors such as the local COVID-19 pneumonia epidemic, high temperature and heat, limited security, and inconvenient travel, completing one task after another, achieving breakthroughs one after another, and interpreting XJ responsibility and responsibility as a "great power" with faith and perseverance .

In January 2020, all the equipment was delivered to the site, and the first staff of the XJ project team entered the converter station of the project. In June, overcomimg the challenges of the raging COVID-19 pneumonia epidemic abroad, in order to promote the resumption of work and production of overseas projects, 10 engineers of XJ people went again to Pakistan.

In July 2020, with nearly 13 hours of high-intensity work every day, engineer team of XJ successfully completed the installation of 336 converter valve components at the two converter stations in Mattiari and Lahore, with a total of 24 converter valve towers, 24-sided valve control cabinet installation, commissioning and sub-system testing.

In September 2020, it took 78 days to complete the single-screen debugging and sub-system testing of the 358 control and protection panel cabinets at the two converter stations of the Project, and completed the witness work of third-party engineers IE and OE.

In October 2020, the construction of the transmission line of the DC project was completed, the DC station system of the Lahore converter station was commissioned, and the DS3000 operator control system supplied by XJ was commissioned at NPCC (Pakistan National Commission) and successfully settled in Pakistan National Dispatching Center

From November 2020 to February 2021, due to the weakness of the Pakistan power grid, experiencing low-frequency oscillations in the power grid, hurricane damage to the AC tower, and nationwide power outages, the Pakistani energy department suspended the system joint commissioning test. After more than two months of technical research, the Pakistani side agreed to resume the test.

In December 2020, the Murtiari and Lahore converter stations of the project in Pakistan supplied by XJ successfully completed the OLT test, indicating that the system commissioning of the converter stations at the outcoming and incoming ends has been completed. The converter valve, control and protection equipment of the goods are in good operation.

In August 2021, the single/double maximum load test of the project was completed. At 8:30 on August 18, local time, 168-hour trial operation was completed. The converter valve and valve control equipment, AC and DC control equipment, DC field current measurement devices and other core equipment supplied by XJ were in good operation state and are scheduled to be put into commercial operation in September.

In the three years from 2019 to 2021, XJ has always faced customers with high-quality and efficient products, precise and standardized management, and an active and professional team.

In the past three years, XJ has continuously made breakthroughs and innovations, kept up with customer needs, provided system solutions in a timely manner, took the initiative to undertake system research, and developed PSS/E DC control and protection simulation models, filling the gap in XJ's DC electromechanical transient modeling field, to further strengthen the optimization design of core equipment such as converter valves, develop compact, low-loss high-pressure converter valves, and create a precedent for low-loss converter valves to be applied overseas.

In the past three years, the Matiari-Lahore ±660kV DC power transmission project Engineering System Commissioning Commando was established, and the party members on the project site took the lead in leading the on-site project team members to complete more than 4,000 equipment tests of various types, forming DC control and protection, converter valves, and DC measurements that benchmarked against international standards. More than 20 standardized reports on core equipment such as installations have laid a solid foundation for the internationalization of XJ Project.

In the past three years, the service awareness has been continuously strengthened, and more than 100 technical personnel of Pakistan NPCC (Pakistan National Transmission and Distribution Corporation) and NTDC (Pakistan National Transmission and Distribution Corporation) have received the maintenance and repair training in DC transmission principles, AC and DC control and protection design principles, converter valves and other core equipment. The owner of the project, the power transmission and transformation team and the installation team of Pakistan gave great honor to XJ engineers in the speed and quality of the project.

The engineering team of the project actively carried forward the work spirit of "dare to fight tough battles and be good at winning battles", to overcome the difficulties, and won two tough battles in the overseas epidemic prevention war and the project in three years. While interpreting the spirit of XJ with practical actions, they also used excellent technology, superb products, and high-quality services to create international high-quality DC projects, shaping China's "golden business card" for DC power transmission, and accelerating the construction of the global energy Internet, boosting " The Belt and Road Initiative and the "going out" of high-end equipment have made positive contributions.
